‘Ceasefire now’ chants drown out US politician after primary victory

In the US, a congressman was drowned out by chants of “ceasefire now” while addressing a crowd at a campaign event.

Democrat Adam Schiff had just won the California primary to run for a Senate seat in November.

The politician has previously stated that his position on Gaza is the same as the Biden administration’s.

He is expected to win against his Republican opponent, Steve Garvey – no Republican has won a statewide seat in California since 2006.

Explosion near US cargo ship

An explosion near a US-owned, Barbados-flagged cargo ship off has been reported off the coast of Yemen.

An entity declaring itself to be the “Yemeni Navy” ordered the ship to alter course 57 nautical miles southwest of Aden, British security firm Ambrey said.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency also reported the incident.

The Houthis have launched drone and missile attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait and Gulf of Aden since November in what they say is solidarity with Palestinians.
