Can there be honor among thieves?

Honor among thieves

A mother complained to my wife, a school teacher, that other students were stealing her daughter’s pencils.

My wife apologized and promised to drill the students on moral ethics.

The complainant expressed gratitude although my wife’s assurance obviously had very little impact. The woman was not happy with the losses but her main concern was far from the classroom incident, and you won’t believe why.

“It’s not the money, it’s the principle,” she insisted. “My husband took those pencils from work.”
