Boy dead in drone attack inside Russia

An 11-year-old boy died after a drone attack on an apartment block in Russia’s Bryansk region overnight, according to the local governor.

Ukrainian drone attacks destroyed a house in Bryansk’s Starodubsky district and hit a five-storey tower block elsewhere in the region into Sunday, Alexander Bogomaz said on Telegram.

The tower block death was the only casualty reported.

Russia said it shot down 29 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 20 in Bryansk, seven in Kaluga, and one each in Smolensk and Kursk.

Meanwhile, Russia has also been using drones across Ukraine, striking Kyiv (see 8am post) and other cities in a bid to compromise electricity supplies as winter sets in.

Drone attacks on Kyiv overnight

There were more drone attacks over Kyiv overnight, city officials say.

Air defences destroyed around a dozen over the city into Sunday, according to military administrator Serhiy Popko.

There were no deaths or injuries reported.

Ukraine said it shot down 32 out of 78 drones launched over the country overnight.

The further 45 were “locationally lost”, according to the air force in Kyiv.

Russia has stepped up aerial attacks on Ukraine in recent weeks, targeting energy supplies in particular, which have left millions of Ukrainians without power as cold temperatures set in.
