Crystal Palace should back head coach Oliver Glasner in the January transfer market to demonstrate their ambitions, given he is out of contract in the summer, according to the club’s former head coach Alan Pardew.

He was speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Sunday’s 1-0 defeat for Palace at home to Tottenham and discussing how imperative it is for the south London side to hold on to the Austrian. 

“There’s that situation with the manager,” said Pardew. “He’s suggesting, ‘I want some more players’. His contract is out in the summer. He’s probably more important than anything else, to keep him at the club. He’s done such a tremendous job. 

“If I was the board, I’d be looking to feed him a player or two. 

“And Marc Guehi is out of contract in the summer and could sign a pre-contract in January. 

“I just think with the board they have there, American ownership, there is finance available. Whether they can get the targets over the line is another matter – it’s always difficult in January.”
