Billie Eilish describes LA fires as ‘scary and devastating’

Billie Eilish has alerted people in Los Angeles to the fire service’s advice on how to stay safe.

“What’s going on in LA right now is sooo scary and devastating,” the singer posted to her 121m followers on Instagram.

The Pacific Palisades neighbourhood, where one of the fires has broken out, is home to a string of A-list celebrities.

Sharing a link to updates on the Los Angeles Fire Department’s website, Eilish said it provided “important updates to help keep yourselves and your pets safe”.

The page includes information on a centre that has been made available as a shelter, which is open for evacuees and accepts small animals.

Eilish, known for hits including Bad Guy and What Was I Made For?, grew up in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles and now reportedly lives in Malibu, which borders the Palisades.

Flames had spread to Malibu by evening LA time on Tuesday, and several people there were treated for burn injuries, according to Los Angeles Fire Department captain Erik Scott. A firefighter also suffered a serious head injury and was taken to a hospital, he said.

Eilish is one of several celebrities trying to help.

Actor Steve Guttenberg, who lives in the Pacific Palisades, urged people who abandoned their cars to leave keys behind so they could be moved to make way for fire trucks.

The star, who is best known for the Police Academy series and Three Men And A Baby, told news station KTLA yesterday: “This is not a parking lot… I have friends up there and they can’t evacuate… I’m walking up there as far as I can moving cars.”
