BA named joint worst airline out of 19 for long-haul flights – showing ‘how far it has fallen’

British Airways has been named the worst UK carrier to fly long haul in the latest airline customer satisfaction survey from Which?.

The consumer brand surveyed travellers’ experiences on more 9,000 flights, with BA finishing joint bottom (with Air Canada) out of 19 airlines for long-haul flights.

It also finished 12th out of 16 carriers for shorter flights, with Ryanair finishing bottom.

BA and Air Canada both also scored two stars out of five across categories including value for money, seat comfort and cabin environment.

Singapore Airlines was top for long-haul flights and scored full marks for customer service, ease of boarding, cleanliness and cabin environment.

Jet2 was the best-performing short-haul airline for the fourth year in a row and had among the lowest rate of last-minute cancellations of any airline.

Reacting to the survey, Rory Boland, Which? travel editor, said British Airways’ poor performance in its survey “shows how far it has fallen from the days when it was seen as setting the standards others should aspire to”.

A BA spokesperson said the research was “entirely at odds with comments from the hundreds of thousands of customers who we know do travel with British Airways and then tell us about their experience”.

They added: “There is always room for improvement and we know we don’t always get things right, but we’re proud of the progress we’re making and will continue to focus on delivering the best possible service for our customers.”
