Arsenal have confirmed signing of Spanish forward Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna for a reported £17million transfer fee. The transaction was hurriedly completed after a dramatic change of heart from Arsene Wenger.

Everton were at the verge of cashing out on Lucas just last week, after agreeing to pay the player’s release clause. The English Premier League side was also said to have agreed on a four-year deal for the player.
Arsenal had watched Perez at length last season, as he scored 17 La Liga goals for Deportivo, the best season of his career. But Arsenal have been slow with player signings since the beginning of this summer’s transfer window.
The Gunners were initially reluctant to spend money on a player whose ability to compete at the highest level is in doubt.

Arsene Wenger is hoping Lucas will live up to expectations at the English Premier League and UEFA Champions League competitions.
Perez began his career with Atletico Madrid before having stints with Rayo Vallecano and PAOK. He was a Deportivo La Coruna player before Arsenal swooped in on him.
