Angela Okorie Explains Why She Destroyed Outfit Worn to Alexx Ekubo’s Funeral

Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has revealed the reason she chose to burn the outfit she wore to the burial of her late colleague, Alexx Ekubo.

The actress shared the explanation on her social media page shortly after attending the funeral ceremony, saying her decision was based on advice she received from her godmother. According to Okorie, she was told that clothes worn to burial ceremonies should not be kept afterward but should instead be destroyed.

Explaining her action, the actress said she felt compelled to pass the information on to her followers, family members and friends.

She wrote: “This is the outfit I wore to Alex’s burial. My godmother said it is not good to have the clothes you wore to a burial around you. You burn them. So family and friends, take note. I felt I should share this information. May the Lord keep us and bless us with long life.”

Okorie accompanied the message with a video showing the outfit being set on fire, emphasizing that her action was influenced by the guidance she received rather than any universally accepted rule.

Her disclosure quickly generated reactions online, with social media users expressing mixed opinions. While some supported the practice as a cultural or traditional belief, others argued that it is a personal choice that varies across different families and communities.

Despite the debate that followed, the actress maintained that she was simply sharing advice that had been passed down to her and offered prayers for protection, good health and long life for her followers and loved ones.
