Nollywood actor Tenkobo has reacted to the recent public appeal made by the family of late comic actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, urging the late actor’s widow to stop using his name to solicit financial support from Nigerians.

His reaction followed an emotional interview in which Mr Ibu’s widow and children disclosed the financial hardship they have faced since the veteran actor’s death, revealing difficulties with rent, electricity bills and their children’s education.

Responding to the appeal, Tenkobo said:

“Stop using Mr Ibu’s name to beg.”

The actor argued that those close to the late comedian should explore other means of supporting the family rather than making repeated public appeals based on Mr Ibu’s legacy. He maintained that the late actor’s name and reputation should be respected while encouraging a more sustainable approach to addressing the family’s financial challenges.

Tenkobo’s remarks have generated mixed reactions on social media. While some Nigerians agreed with his position, others defended the widow, arguing that her public appeal reflects the genuine hardship the family is experiencing following the actor’s passing.

The exchange comes just days after Mr Ibu’s widow disclosed that the family had been struggling to meet basic needs, stating that they had lost electricity, relied on well water and were unable to keep their children in school because of unpaid fees.
