2nd mistaken evacuation order phone alert sent across LA – wildfire survivors might face mental health crisis

The city of Beverly Hills said an evacuation alert was sent mistakenly to residents this morning.

It comes after nearly 10 million people were sent evacuation alerts in error yesterday, including in places far from where wildfires are burning.

A second alert followed, telling people to disregard the earlier warning and that it was meant for people near the Kenneth Fire.

Wildfire survivors may be left with mental trauma, expert says

The wildfires in the Los Angeles area may take a significant toll on the mental health of survivors, according to a doctor in psychiatry and behavioural neurosciences.

Dr Jace Reed works at the Cedars-Sinai hospital in LA and says it’s common for people to experience emotional distress during traumatic events like these.

“The current wildfires have led to evacuations, the destruction of homes and property, the loss of beloved pets, physical injuries and even death, all of which can be profoundly distressing,” he told ABC News.

“Individuals may feel a range of emotions, including denial, anger, sadness, shock and hopelessness.

“This emotional response can evolve into later stages, such as acceptance, further sadness, depression and bitterness.”
