Israeli defence minister suggests pauses won’t curb offensive
More now on the mixed messages surrounding humanitarian pauses in Gaza.
If you’re just joining us, the White House said Israel had agreed to new, daily, four-hour humanitarian pauses.
But as Sky News correspondent Mark Stone outlined in our 18.48 post, the IDF’s spokesperson offered a slightly different interpretation.
Now Israel’s defence minister, Yoav Gallant, has claimed the military was undertaking “localised, pinpoint measures” in Gaza to enable Palestinian refugees to flee the fighting.

“These things do not detract from the war fighting,” Mr Gallant said when asked by a reporter about the White House’s announcement, which he did not directly address.
The war would continue until Hamas was toppled and hostages held in Gaza were freed, he said.
Israel will reach every Palestinian involved in the 7 October attack “even if it takes years”, he added.
