Islamic Jihad prepared to ‘release two hostages’

Islamic Jihad is prepared to release two Israeli hostages – a woman and a boy – for humanitarian and medical reasons, a spokesman for its armed wing, al Quds Brigades, has said.

In a recorded message, he added that the initiative would take place once certain measures were met.

Islamic Jihad is a Palestinian militant group and an ally of Hamas that took part in the 7 October attack on Israel.

It has the second-biggest armed network in Gaza after Hamas, including rockets, mortars and anti-tank missiles.

Israel estimates the group has received millions of dollars in funding from Iran.

The group has foreign headquarters in Beirut, Lebanon, and Damascus, Syria.

Founded in the 1970s, it is sworn to destroying Israel and replacing it with an Islamic state.
