As of Wednesday 16, 2016 ZOOTOPIA has earned a whooping 824 million yuan (about 126.3 million U.S. dollars) in box office sales. It is the 55th animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series.

In the plot, a city of anthropomorphic animals, a rookie bunny cop and a cynical con artist fox must work together to uncover a conspiracy.

Since it’s debut on 4th March the SLOTH character has unexpectedly become a social media sensation here in China where the movie has fast dominated cinemas nationwide.
It is so because for most Chinese, “Zootopia” is the first time that they have even seen a sloth. People are now keen to know more about these animals.

In the latest Disney’s animated movie ZOOTOPIA, we enjoyed many animal characters – rabbits, elephants, bears, pigs, foxes – but the SLOTH character gained better appreciation. Almost everyone laughed at the slowest mammal on earth and it was fun.
The sloth has suddenly become a big celebrity and very famous in his own right.
The new movie is expected to beat “Kung Fu Panda 3” to become the highest-grossing animated film in China and possibly around the world.

Sloths headed the Transportation Ministry in government and the portrayal was a sly jab at the inefficient government workers.

Animated gifs, known as “stickers,” featuring the sloth character is trending at the moment. The stickers and pictures have also been shared across instant messaging apps especially WeChat.

At Beijing Zoo, the American animal enclosure, which has several two-toed sloths, has been very popular in recent days.
A Weibo user Yykii tweeted after watching the 3D movie, “I could just watch these creatures all day! They are so cute”.
