Flavia Carvalho is a tattoo artist from Brazil who volunteered to help bring smiles on the faces of women who had suffered violence. She offers free tattoos, helping to cover up wounds.
Scars are definitely life-long reminders of abuse and no victim would wish to face the nightmare so Flavia Carvalho decided to do something about it. Her project “A Pele da Flor” (The Skin of the Flower) is about giving hurt women tattoos free of charge.
The tattoo artist has carried out the selfless project for over two years.
In her job, every woman with scars left from knives and bullets, and from mastectomies as well, can get free services that transforms those wounds into beautiful arts. What a good way to empower women with beauty!
“It all started about two years ago, when I worked with a client who wanted to cover a large scar on her abdomen.”
Flavia Carvalho runs a studio in Curitiba, Brasil. In her brief interview with Huffington Post, she said: “I started the project quite recently, and I had no idea it would receive this much media attention.
“It began very spontaneously. As I said, my services are a hundred percent voluntary, and the only “cost” women need to invest is to choose a design for their tattoos!”
