The suspect told police her husband’s food was tainted with a poisonous substance, and revealed she never expected her half-brother to share the meal with him.

A third person who ate the poisoned food with Usman and Dasa was lucky to escape death by a whisker.

The survivor, her 23-year-old sister-in-law, Shafa’atu Usman, lived to tell tales after doctors at the emergency care section of a nearby hospital offered treatments. She was certified medically fit and discharged afterwards.

The Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident to Vanguard on Friday, saying it occurred in Ungwar Dan Mayaki village in Bakori Local government area of the state.

Isah also disclosed that the deceased persons could not survive because they were already dead when rushed to the hospital.

A police spokesperson commended an unnamed good Samaritan who he said, reported this murder case at the Bakori Divisional police station.

It was a case of forced marriage and marital troubles.

The housewife, Dausiya, was initially in love with her husband until he got involved in a ghastly motor accident two weeks after their wedding, then her love for Usman died off. She suddenly found herself unable to love a man who lost almost every teeth and limps while walking.

With the loathing came extramarital affairs, the DSP noted.

According to DSP Isah, Dausiya is carrying a pregnancy belonging to another man.

The suspect, Dausiya, has been remanded in Bakori on charges of culpable homicide for the 18 December, 2017 incident.
