Why Janet Jackson visited childhood home in Gary, Indiana

Famous singer Janet Jackson and her brother Randy Jackson visited their childhood home in Gary, Indiana, and found time to share thoughts with some high school students in the area.

Janet, a socially-conscious singer who has been prominent in popular culture for over 30 years, is the youngest child of the Jackson family.

According to a report from the Northwest Indiana Times, Janet visited Gary, Indiana on Friday shortly after Michael Jackson’s concert in the Chicago area.

Now 51 years old, the All for You singer said her last time at the family home was 43 years ago. She was 8 years old at that time.

Janet Jackson told students at Roosevelt High School that she started crying when she saw the small house. She said, “me and my family are so blessed. I’m so thankful.”

The Jackson family moved out of the industrial city about 30 miles (50 kilometers) southwest of Chicago after the Jackson 5 recorded their first album in 1969, when Janet Jackson was a toddler.

She also told students she misses performing with her siblings.

Janet gave birth to her son Eissa earlier in January although the marriage to Wissam Al Mana crashed shortly after the delivery. Despite suffering emotional stress from the divorce, her make-up artist Preston Meneses said she’s in “good spirits”.
