The UK needs to be prepared for all eventualities, including nuclear war, says Labour’s shadow work and pensions secretary.

Jonathan Ashworth told Sky News: “Clearly, we need to continue to support Ukraine in every way and we need to work internationally to ensure that pressure is continually applied to Putin.

“And of course, yes, we have to be prepared. 

“I’ve read expert suggests that this may be a bluff. I mean, it’s pretty serious. I’m not downplaying it remotely. 

“But, look, it’s not for me to speculate on the psychology of Putin and what he may or may not do. But obviously, we need to be prepared.”

He followed from Nadhim Zahawi, who said earlier in the programme that Putin is “unpredictable”.
