The White House believes there is a framework for another hostage deal between Israel and Hamas.
John Kirby, national security spokesman, told MSNBC that talks to release hostages in Gaza have been constructive.
Under a ceasefire deal in November, more than 100 Israeli hostages and 240 Palestinian prisoners were exchanged, but it collapsed after a week.
Mediators have since been locked in talks over another potential deal, but no breakthrough has emerged, despite several options reportedly put forward by international partners such as Qatar and Egypt.
Hamas is still holding more than 100 hostages in Gaza.
