Analysis: What do Ukrainian troops need?

Ukraine has been calling for more funding and weaponry to help its forces on the battlefield.

So what does Ukraine need?

Looking at the situation on the battlefield military analyst Michael Clarke says the Ukrainians need artillery shells most right now.

He says next to artillery shells, “lots more” air defence missiles are also needed by Ukraine.

“The Ukrainians are far behind in their ability to conduct war in the air – the Russians have got far more aircraft,” he says.

“The Ukrainians are putting a lot of faith in these F-16s they are getting but will they get enough?

“Will they get F-16s with all the stuff that goes with them to hold back Russia’s natural superiority?

“They need more air power in order to fight effectively on the ground.”
