‘We’ve seen no action of any kind’: Farage criticises government on visit to Golders Green

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has been visiting the scene of yesterday’s double stabbing in Golders Green.

Farage criticised Keir Starmer for failing to stamp out a rise in antisemitism in Britain, warning that recent violence was “much bigger” than attacks on just one community.

He said:

“Prime minister, frankly, we’ve seen no action of any kind.

“Suffice to say that this is not just an attack on Jewish people.

“This is much bigger, much broader, much more fundamental, and if you’re the group currently being targeted, well, who’s next?”

The Labour government would argue, of course, that it is taking action – with more money for security and a new law announced today (more on that shortly).

Reform also calling for bans on groups

Earlier, Suella Braverman, also of Farage’s Reform UK, told Sky News action “needs to be taken” to combat a rising wave of antisemitism.

She told Sky News that politicians need to do more than just “dish out meaningless platitudes, put out tweets, sending their sympathies and our thoughts and prayers”.

“None of that is meaningful,” she said.

“There is action that needs to be taken.”

Braverman – who is a former Conservative home secretary – added that ministers should ban the Iran-linked Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), as well as the Muslim Brotherhood.

The home secretary said this morning that she could not comment on specific groups the government might be planning to ban

Braverman added that “hate marches” should also be outlawed.

New law to ban state-backed groups will be in King’s Speech

A new terror-like law to ban state-backed groups and individuals will be unveiled on 13 May.

MEZIESBLOG understands the plans will be included in the King’s Speech, which is when the government sets out its plans for the next year or so.

The home secretary said earlier that, unlike terror groups, which ministers can ban, there is a “gap in the law” when it comes to banning organisations “that may be linked to hostile states.”

She said the government will fast-track new legislation to give powers to tackle individuals or groups acting on behalf of state-sponsored organisations.

The government has vowed to stamp out antisemitism following a rise in attacks on the Jewish community, including yesterday’s stabbing in Golders Green.
