‘We want work, not illness’: Protesters arrive in Tenerife

As we just outlined in the post below this one, police have been prepared for a protest in Tenerife, ahead of the infected cruise ship’s arrival there this weekend.

“We want work, not illness,” the crowds there are chanting.

They’ve just gathered there in the past few minutes, outside the parliament building.

Police brace for planned government protest in Tenerife

Police vehicles have arrived outside Tenerife’s parliament building, Sky News correspondent Sadiya Chowdhury reports from the island.

It comes ahead of a planned protest by port workers who are opposed to the MV Hondius arriving at the island.

The cruise ship, on its way to Tenerife from Cape Verde, is expected to dock by Sunday.

The protest was due to begin at midday, but there has been no sign of it yet, Chowdhury says.

Earlier this week, Chowdbury also spoke to some locals to get their feelings on the ship’s arrival.
