Earlier in July, Sevilla and Barcelona slugged it out on who would get the 22-year-old’s signatures but the former Atleti player made his choice. Juventus was also interested in signing the footballer.
Lluis Miguelsanz of Sport was right when he said in July that the 22-year-old striker will decide between the two clubs–Barca and Sevilla–citing that the Spanish champions were ready to part with €22 million (£18.4 million) to land this former Villarreal starlet.
“Barca are better placed to sign Vietto after agreeing to buy his economic rights, while Sevilla are, for now, only contemplating whether to go through with the transfer,” the piece continued.
“This has allowed the Catalan club to strike a deal early on with Atletico Madrid, who need finances themselves to sign new players of their own.”
But just when everything looked right in Barca’s favor, news broke out that Vietto had signed for Sevilla.
Media reports speculate the striker avoided signing for Barca in order not to get trapped under the MSN trio. With Messi, Suarez and Neymar already taking the front lead, this young man would have sold his football career a few million bucks.
It’s news that Barca are finding it very hard at the moment to sign a good striker who would accept to play the second fiddle for “the three big guys”.
Vietto moved to Sevilla on loan from Atletico Madrid.
“I said yes to Sevilla because I’m a young player who needs to keep growing and Sevilla was my best option. The decision was mine,” Vietto said at his presentation, according to reports from AS.
“I’m very happy with how I have been received. It’s been a great pre-season and we go into the UEFA Super Cup in the best way.
“Jorge Sampaoli called me to come and he’s a great Coach. His presence was a great influence for me to be here.”
