Victor Wanyama has won the Carling Goal of the Month award for February 2018 following his fierce shot from outside the box, which earned Tottenham Hotspur a 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

In the match played on 4 February, Wanyama struck a bouncing ball from a nearly-impossible distance and had it curl up inside the Reds’ net. Harry Kane also missed a penalty in the same game but later scored from the spot to mark his century of goals in Spurs’ colors.

“That was one of my best goals I’ve ever scored,” Wanyama said in a post-match interview.

He continued, “I just reacted before the Liverpool players…I thought I’d just let it go because the ball was bouncing and I didn’t want to think too much so, I just let it fly.”

The Kenya international footballer was nominated alongside eight others: Danilo, Mario Lemina, Jose Izquierdo (twice), Mohamed Salah, Sergio Aguero and Adam Smith.

Wanyama was crowned winner from combined votes cast by a panel of experts and the public, who selected their favorite via the Carling Tap and Carling website.
