The United States carried out two airstrikes in Syria against Iran and its “aligned groups”, the Pentagon said late last night.
The strikes, ordered directly by President Biden, targeted a training facility near the city of Albu Kamal and a safe house near the city of Mayadeen.
The strike is the third since 26 October as the US responds to drone and rocket attacks against American troops in Syria and Iraq.
US defence secretary Lloyd Austin this morning left open the possibility of more strikes against Iran-linked groups if attacks against American forces don’t stop.
“These attacks must stop, and if they don’t stop, then we won’t hesitate to do what’s necessary, again, to protect the troops,” Mr Austin told reporters at a news conference in Seoul.
