US sends more than 1 million rounds of seized Iranian ammunition to Ukraine

We reported earlier that the US was preparing to announce it will send seized Iranian small arms and ammunition to Ukraine.

This has now been confirmed by the country’s Central Command, which said in an official statement that around 1.1 million rounds of Iranian ammunition, held since last year, were transferred to Ukrainian armed forces on Monday.

The unit, responsible for military operations in the Middle East, said the 7.62mm rounds were initially seized by US naval forces in December.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards were transferring the munitions to Houthi forces in Yemen via a stateless ship, in violation of UN laws.

Central Command said the US is “committed to working with our allies and partners to counter the flow of Iranian lethal aid in the region”.
