The US treasury has imposed sanctions on Russia’s leading oil tanker group in a bid to reduce Moscow’s oil sales revenues.
Sovcomflot was sanctioned for being owned or controlled by, or having acted or purposed to act for or on behalf of, directly or indirectly, the Russian government – according to the treasury.
The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Asset Control also designated 14 vessels for carrying oil above the West’s price cap on Russian oil, it said.
This marks one of more than 500 wide-ranging sanctions imposed by ashington on business and individuals linked with the Russian state.
