US language around the Israel-Hamas war is “becoming increasingly tense and increasingly concerned”, military analyst Sean Bell has said.
Taking a look at the US position followings its veto at the UN Security Council, Bell said “you do not often see the US stood alone”.
He said there were many members in the UN and the group provided guidance but “can’t drive anything”.
“But the UN Security Council has teeth,” he said.
“If the security council passes something then under the UN charter, member nations have to action it.”
Bell said at yesterday’s vote 13 nations voted for an end to fighting.
He added: “The US has turned around and said unless you give Israel time to complete its task in dealing with Hamas – what was the war all about? You just leave the seeds there that will flourish again in the future.
“But it is interesting outside of this that the US language is becoming increasingly tense and increasingly concerned about how long it will be before Israel calls a halt to the fighting.”
He went on to say there was a “mismatch” of expectations going on “because if the US doesn’t stop the conflict now then when does it?”
Gaza hospital ‘loses control’ amid large number of casualties
A hospital in southern Gaz has said it is losing control of the large number of casualties arriving at the facility.
The director general of Nasser Medical Complex, Dr Atef Al-Hout, pointed out that there were many cases that have been waiting for surgery for days.
“We lost control in the face of the large number of infections hitting the complex,” he said.
