US issues new Iran-related sanctions – Treasury Department

The United States Treasury has issued new Iran-related sanctions.

The sanctions target four Iran and Hong Kong based companies for providing materials and technology to Iran’s ballistic missile and drone programmes and a Hong Kong-based firm for selling Iranian commodities.

Six officials from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp’s Cyber Electronic Command have also been sanctioned for malicious cyber activities against critical infrastructure in the United States and elsewhere, the Treasury said.

Under the sanctions, all property belonging to the designated entities and individuals that are in the United States or fall under US control are blocked.

US individuals or companies are generally barred from transactions involving the property of those sanctioned.

The United States has been preparing a response to a drone attack on a military base in Jordan on Sunday which killed three US service members and injured at least 40 others.

The US has blamed the attack on Iran-backed militants.

Earlier, Iran’s president said his country will not start a war, but will “respond strongly” to anyone who bullies it (see post at 08.40)am.
