The US army will sell Israel $106.5m (around £84m) worth of tank shells after the Biden administration used its emergency authority, the Pentagon said.
This means about 14,000 tank shells will be sold to Israel without congressional review.
The sale will be from army inventory and consist of 120mm M830A1 high explosive anti-tank multi-purpose with tracer tank cartridges and related equipment, the Pentagon said in a statement.
This comes after the US vetoed a United Nations resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza – despite the proposal being backed by almost all members of the Security Council.
Out of the 15 members on the council, 13 voted in favour of the resolution. The US was the only country to block it, and the UK abstained.

IDF carrying out more strikes in Lebanon
The Israel Defence Forces says it is carrying out more strikes on Lebanese territory as it looks to engage Hezbollah targets there.
“A short while ago, a number of launches from Lebanon toward several areas in northern Israel were identified, no injuries were reported,” an update on the IDF’s social media read.
It said it was responding with strikes.
“Furthermore, a short while ago, in response to the launches from Lebanon throughout the day, an IAF fighter jet struck a Hezbollah operational command centre in Lebanon.”
Lebanon-based Hezbollah, which means “Party of God” in Arabic, openly calls for the destruction of the “Zionist regime in Palestine” and is deemed a terror organisation by most Western powers.
The militia has long aligned itself with Hamas and Islamic Jihad and is backed by Iran.
