Position Description

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Vice President for Student Services & Student Engagement, the direction of staff physicians, and the Dean of the Hunt School of Nursing, the University Health Services Advanced Provider plans, organizes, directs, and provides student health services programs, operations, and activities addressing the physical needs of students. These include screening, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of health conditions, prevention programming, and health education. This provider will provide health care services to students and staff under the direction and responsibility of a physician collaborator.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Coordinate and direct communications, services, resources, and information; direct the development and implementation of student health programs, services, projects, strategies, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives to meet current and future student and occupational health needs. The Advance Practice Clinician also provides a holistic approach to patient care, including patient education as appropriate.
  • Plan, organize, and direct student health services operations and activities; ensure that related activities comply with established standards, requirements, laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures; implement and evaluate program review processes and student learning outcome assessments; develop, implement and evaluate standardized procedures and clinical protocols.
  • Serve as a patient advocate by attending to patient concerns, assessing situations, reporting concerns to supervisory personnel, and instituting/recommending appropriate action, including coordinating and following up with medical referrals in the community as necessary.
  • Develop and implement protocols for responding to medical emergencies and crises on campus. Serve as liaison with local healthcare facilities and emergency services.
  • Provide technical information and assistance to SSSE leadership concerning health services, activities, needs, and issues; assist in formulating and developing policies, procedures, and programs. Assist with developing, reviewing, and revising clinical practice guidelines; recommend changes in operational procedures.
  • Works closely with university staff and the broader university community on health education programming and health promotion for TTUHSCEP students and staff.
  • Administers, orders, furnishes, and prescribes medications according to written standardized procedures.
  • Participate in University activities as requested by the Assistant Vice President for Student Services & Student Engagement and foster partnerships with campus departments, community organizations, and healthcare providers to enhance the delivery of health and wellness services.
  • Support all SSSE Events as requested by SSSE senior leadership to ensure adequate support for all students
  • Adhere to all TTUHSCEP policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Personally demonstrate, display, and act in accordance with TTUHSCEP’s values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Actively promote and encourage staff across the institution.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation for a Physician Assistant’s training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association.
  • Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer licensee to Texas.
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. OR
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD), and Doctor of Health Science (DHSc).
  • Three or more years experience in practicing primary care medicine in a university health clinic or urgent care setting.
  • Demonstrated ability and sensitivity in working effectively with people with diverse backgrounds and perspectives
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a communicator, with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution
  • Experience assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental health disorders within the scope of the family practice care model.
