President Donald Trump told reporters Friday that Iran’s latest proposal to end the current conflict was “unacceptable.”
Speaking aboard Air Force One while returning from China, Trump said he immediately rejected Tehran’s latest offer after seeing language that appeared to leave open the possibility of Iran retaining elements of its nuclear program.
“I looked at it, and I don’t like the first sentence. I just throw it away,” Trump said.
Trump emphasized that Iran must completely abandon any nuclear capability, insisting there can be “no nuclear of any form.”
“You’ve got to get all the fuel out and no more production,” Trump said. “You have to get everything.”
The president also claimed Iranian officials privately admitted their nuclear facilities suffered “complete obliteration” following recent U.S. military strikes carried out by B-2 bombers.
According to Trump, Iranian representatives acknowledged only the United States and possibly China possess the specialized equipment necessary to remove radioactive debris from the damaged sites.
“They said the only one that can remove it is China or the U.S.,” Trump said. “They said you were right. It is a complete obliteration.”
Trump repeatedly declared Iran would “never have a nuclear weapon,” warning that the United States remains prepared to resume military operations if necessary.
While defending the recent bombing campaign, Trump blasted media outlets including CNN, The New York Times, and the BBC for questioning the effectiveness of the strikes.
“We had a total military victory,” Trump said. “We knocked out their entire Navy. We knocked out their entire Air Force. We knocked out all of their anti-aircraft weaponry.”
Trump added that approximately 80% to 85% of Iran’s missile manufacturing capability has been destroyed and warned that remaining targets could be eliminated quickly if Tehran refuses to cooperate.
“We could knock out their bridges and their electrical capacity within two days,” Trump said.
The president also discussed Iran extensively during meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.
Trump said Xi strongly agreed Iran “cannot have a nuclear weapon” and supports reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy shipping lane disrupted during the conflict.
Trump suggested China has economic incentives to help stabilize the region because Beijing receives roughly 40% of its imported oil through the strait.
Despite maintaining a temporary ceasefire, Trump made clear the administration remains ready to escalate if Iran backtracks again.
“Iran will never have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said. “Not going to happen.”
