Ukraine’s foreign minister in New Delhi in bid to turn neutral India

Dmytro Kuleba arrived in New Delhi earlier this week for diplomatic talks.

Kyiv is attempting to shift India’s neutrality on Russia’s war towards a peace “formula” – which involves Moscow withdrawing troops from Ukraine’s territory.

Ukraine hopes to hold a summit of world leaders without Russian participation in the coming months to advance its blueprint.

Russia has dismissed the Ukrainian diplomatic initiative as a non-starter.

New Delhi, which has a long-standing trading relationship with Moscow, and has significantly increased its purchases of Russian oil since the start of the conflict, has remained neutral.

“Building on the dialogue between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Narendra Modi, we will pay specific attention to the peace formula,” Mr Kuleba said on a post on X.

Mr Modi held separate phone calls last week with Mr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin ahead of Mr Kuleba’s visit.
