UK Home Secretary sacked after pro-Palestine march controversy

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has sacked Suella Braverman as his home secretary following controversy over the pro-Palestine marches, she dubbed “hate marches”.

Last week she wrote a newspaper article that criticised the Metropolitan Police’s handling of the controversial march on Armistice Day.

In a piece for The Times, Ms Braverman accused the police of “playing favourites” with how they handle controversial protests by showing a more lenient attitude to left-wing protesters than their right-wing counterparts.

More fire exchanged after ‘shelling from Lebanon’

Two mortars were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel, setting off sirens in Gornot HaGalil, according to the Israel Defence Forces.

Both landed in open areas causing no damage, it said.

“IDF artillery is striking the sources of the launches,” an update read.

Separately, the IDF said it struck a “cell” inside Lebanese territory near Biranit.

“A hit was identified,” it said.

If offered no further detail on the cell, but southern Lebanon is home to the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group, so it is possible that is who the IDF was targeting – although this is unconfirmed.
