The coronavirus death toll in UK hospitals, care homes and the wider community has risen by seven to 45,759, the lowest number reported since March 12, the government said.
The figures do not include all deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK, which are thought to have passed 55,000, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said it would pause the publication of daily death figures for the whole of the UK, after Health Secretary Matt Hancock ordered a review into claims by researchers that there were “statistical flaws” in how they were calculated.
The government also announced that in the 24-hour period up to 9am on Monday, there had been a further 685 lab-confirmed cases. Overall, a total of 300,111 cases have been confirmed in the UK.
Each nation’s health service has released figures relating to Covid-19-linked deaths on Monday, with all in England.
A further 10 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in the country to 33,887, NHS England said.Patients were aged between 48 and 93 years old and all had known underlying health conditions.
There have been no further reported deaths of people who tested positive for coronavirus in Wales, health officials have said.The total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic remains at 1,549.Public Health Wales said the total number of cases in the country increased by 45, bringing the revised total of confirmed cases to 17,170.
No new coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Scotland in the last 24 hours – the 11th day in a row without any fatalities.
The latest Scottish Government figures show that 2,491 patients have died in Scotland after testing positive for Covid-19.
A total of 18,554 people have tested positive for the virus in Scotland, up by three from 18,551 the day before.
There are 270 people in hospital with confirmed coronavirus and two patients are in intensive care.
There were no new Covid-19 deaths reported in Northern Ireland, meaning the total toll stands at 556.
The Northern Irish government has announced 21 new coronavirus cases, taking the total number of positive cases to 5,912.
