Tucker Carlson confirms he is interviewing Vladimir Putin

The former Fox News host has confirmed he is indeed interviewing Vladimir Putin, after days of rumours and speculation in which he was spotted visiting the Russian president’s office yesterday.

It would be the first one-on-one interview the Russian president has done with a Western journalist since the invasion of Ukraine nearly two years ago.

Carlson, who was fired from Fox News in April last year and has been a vocal supporter of Mr Putin, posted a four-minute video on X explaining why he had decided to interview him.

He described Western interviews with Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy as “fawning pep sessions” and “government propaganda”.

The right-wing commentator criticised media outlets for not interviewing Mr Putin as well, saying Western audiences had “never heard his voice” and that this was “wrong”.

He said Elon Musk had agreed not to “block” or “suppress” the interview on social media site X, but accused the Biden administration of “illegally spying” on his team’s text messages to stop “a Putin interview that we were planning”.
