Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer has also attacked Donald Trump over his renewed threats to attack Iran’s critical infrastructure sites.
“Happy Easter, America. As you head off to church and celebrate with friends and family, the President of the United States is ranting like an unhinged madman on social media.
“He’s threatening possible war crimes and alienating allies. This is who he is, but this is not who we are. Our country deserves so much better.”
‘Good chance’ of deal being reached tomorrow, Trump tells US media
Donald Trump has repeated his threats to Iran over the course of several posts on social media and in comments to US and Israeli outlets.
Earlier, Trump posted an expletive-laden message online, saying Iran will “be living in hell” if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened by his 6 April deadline.
“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped in one” if the key shipping lane is not reopened, he added.
- In comments to Fox News, Trump said there’s a “good chance” a deal will be reached tomorrow – adding Iran is “negotiating now”.
- He told the same outlet that if Iran “don’t make a deal and fast, I’m considering blowing everything up and taking over the oil”.
- He also told Israel’s Channel 12 News: “A deal can be reached by Tuesday – if not, we’ll blow everything up there.”
Trump hails ‘Easter Miracle’ rescue mission
We’ve heard some more comments from Donald Trump about the mission to recover the US crewmen from Iran.
In a text message to Kristen Welker, from NBC News, Trump says the rescue was an “Easter Miracle”.
“The enemy was large and violent. The rescuers were brilliant, strong, decisive, and as cool as anyone can be.
“The Iranians thought they had him, but it wasn’t even close, and remember, we got two, but couldn’t talk about the first in that it would have highlighted that there was a second.
“Such a rescue has never happened before in so violant an enemy territory. It is usually not done because it is considered not doable. Such a great military – Like no other.”
