Trump Rallies in Deep-Red Kentucky, Urges Voters to Treat Midterms as Referendum on His Presidency

President Donald Trump rallied supporters at Truist Arena in Highland Heights, Kentucky, on Saturday, telling the crowd to “pretend I’m on the ballot” as he made a final push for Republican candidates ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections .

“I’m not on the ballot, but I am on the ballot,” Trump said during a speech that stretched roughly 90 minutes. “We’ve got more things done, and (Democrats) can undo them if we start losing an election, especially this one”.

Trump was joined on stage by Rep. Andy Barr, the Republican nominee for the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell, and Ed Gallrein, a retired Navy SEAL and farmer running for Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District . Trump praised Barr as “an amazing candidate” and described Gallrein as someone out of “central casting”.

The president made a new conditional promise tied to the election outcome: if Republicans win, he said, the Department of War would invest $100 million in the pharmaceutical company Antheia to revitalize a drug manufacturing facility in Winchester, Kentucky . “If the Republicans win, the Department of War will be investing $100 million,” Trump said. If Democrats win, he continued, “they wouldn’t be able to do it, they wouldn’t even know what you’re talking about”.

Trump also repeated his pledge to send every American adult a $5,000 “Trump dividend” if Republicans retain control of Congress, adding that the money must be spent in the United States . The proposal would likely cost more than $1 trillion and require congressional approval.

The rally came as Trump’s approval rating has dipped, with a Reuters/Ipsos poll cited by the Cincinnati Enquirer putting him at 32 percent—a career low . Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear, a potential 2028 presidential contender, said Trump’s decision to campaign in a state he won by roughly 30 points suggested Republicans are “in big trouble” .

Trump targeted Barr’s Democratic opponent, Charles Booker, calling him a “radical” and a “communist lunatic” . Booker responded in a statement, saying he was “flattered by his baseless attacks on me” and that it proved “how close this race is, and they’re scared” .

On foreign policy, Trump said the war with Iran would end “very quickly” and predicted gas prices would fall . He also riffed on his own power, referencing his decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America: “I don’t think I could have done this in my first term. This is a much more powerful term. Google wouldn’t have taken my call in the first. Now, they kiss my” backside .

A protester was removed from the arena early in Trump’s remarks, with the president telling the crowd without evidence that protesters were paid $250 .
