- Trump ‘reviewing’ 14-point Iranian peace plan: Donald Trump says he’s reviewing a new peace proposal by Iran. But the US president suggested he “can’t imagine” it will be acceptable as Iran hasn’t yet “paid a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity”.
- US president also issues new threat: Trump also warned he would order attacks on Iran to restart if the Iranian regime were to “misbehave”.
- Israel tells more Lebanese areas to evacuate: Israel warned people in 11 towns and villages in southern Lebanon to evacuate on Sunday morning. It continues to strike at what it says are Hezbollah targets, with Hezbollah retaliating, despite what’s meant to be a period of ceasefire.
Pope pays tribute to journalists killed in war
Pope Leo has marked World Press Freedom Day by paying tributes to journalists killed in war during an address broadcast by Vatican media.
The rising number of journalists killed during the Israeli offensive in Lebanon have made headlines in recent weeks.
Note that Israel’s military generally insists it gives advance warning for its attacks to protect civilians.
US Treasury expects oil prices to fall later this year
Surging oil prices are bound to fall later this year, the US Treasury secretary has insisted.
“Oil prices on the other side of this conflict are going to be much lower,” Scott Bessent told Fox Business.
He also struck an optimistic tone on the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has effectively kept closed for commercial traffic.
Bessent said he “wouldn’t be surprised” to see more ships move through the key shipping lane, as he said Iran isn’t getting much for attempts to collect tolls for passage.
Iran says Trump must choose ‘between impossible operation and bad deal’
The intelligence unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a stark warning to President Donald Trump who, as we’ve been saying, has been reviewing Iran’s 14-point peace plan.
The IRGC’s intelligence unit cited, among other things, Iran’s deadline on the US blockade, as well as China, Russia and Europe “shifting tone against Washington” as it said: “There is only one way to read this: Trump must choose between ‘an impossible military operation or a bad deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran.’
“The room for US decision-making has narrowed.”
