Trump: ‘God bless Russia and Ukraine’

Donald Trump says his phone conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy “went very well”.

“He, like President Putin, wants to make PEACE,” the president posted on social media.

“We discussed a variety of topics having to do with the War, but mostly, the meeting that is being set up on Friday in Munich, where Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will lead the Delegation.

“I am hopeful that the results of that meeting will be positive.

“It is time to stop this ridiculous War, where there has been massive, and totally unnecessary, DEATH and DESTRUCTION. God bless the people of Russia and Ukraine!”

Zelenskyy ‘charting next steps’ with U.S. after Trump call

Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he has had a “meaningful conversation” with Donald Trump over the phone.

“President Trump shared details of his conversation with Putin,” said the Ukrainian leader.

“No one wants peace more than Ukraine. Together with the US, we are charting our next steps to stop Russian aggression and ensure a lasting, reliable peace.

“As President Trump said, let’s get it done.”

The pair “talked about opportunities to achieve peace” and “discussed our readiness to work together at the team level”.

“I am grateful to President Trump for his interest in what we can accomplish together.”

Analysis: Short-term gains for Trump – but long-term uncertainty for Ukraine

Donald Trump will be pleased after his phone call with Vladimir Putin, according to US correspondents.

Trump has delivered short-term gains in line with his campaign promises, but has also created “long-term uncertainty”, Stone told Sky News’ chief presenter Mark Austin on News Hour.

“If you’re sitting in Kyiv now, you want some sort of guarantee. Short term, they’ll need to be a peacekeeping force along the eastern front,” said Stone.

But after Pete Hegseth ruled out US forces or NATO protection, Trump’s options for enforcing a peace deal are dwindling, Stone explained.

“The Trump administration has dismissed the UN many times as pointless and useless, so you can’t really see that being an option,” Stone added.

He said the Munich Security Conference, which starts on Friday, could see more details come out about America’s intentions.
