US President Donald Trump on Sunday issued his “complete and total endorsement” of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of Israel’s October 27 elections, declaring that “Bibi Netanyahu will never let you down” .
In a lengthy post on his Truth Social platform addressed to the Israeli people, Trump praised Netanyahu as “strong, brave, and brilliant,” saying the Israeli leader had grown stronger despite mounting pressure, including opposition from within Israel itself .
“I have watched Bibi under the most trying of times. Normal men or women in such situations would have wilted under the pressure — but Bibi did not wilt. He actually got stronger,” Trump wrote .
Trump warned that if Israelis chose anyone other than Netanyahu, the United States could be forced to confront Iran alone. “If Israel has the wrong leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so,” he said . He also claimed Iran had been “systematically destroyed, both militarily and financially,” and warned that unless Tehran changed course, “we will soon finish the job” .
“Please let this letter serve to represent my complete and total endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu in his upcoming race for re-election as prime minister of Israel,” Trump wrote. “BIBI NETANYAHU WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”
Netanyahu swiftly responded on X, thanking Trump for his “tremendous support and partnership,” adding: “Together, we will complete the mission!”
The endorsement comes as opinion polls point to a deadlock between Netanyahu’s coalition and an opposition bloc led by former army chief Gadi Eisenkot. A Maariv poll published Sunday put each bloc at 51 seats, well short of the 61 needed for a parliamentary majority . Eisenkot led Netanyahu 48 percent to 41 percent when respondents were asked who was better suited to serve as prime minister .
The October 27 vote is Israel’s first national election since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack. A loss would likely end the political career of Netanyahu, who turns 77 soon; a victory would mark a dramatic political comeback .
