Thomas Tuchel: They can hate Chelsea, but we won’t stop now

Thomas Tuchel claimed others are jealous of Chelsea having the opportunity to play in the Club World Cup after his side’s victory in the final against Palmeiras on Sunday.

The Blues took the lead through Romelu Lukaku’s header but they were pegged back when Thiago Silva conceded a penalty for handball upon VAR review, with Raphael Veiga converting from the spot.

Extra time ensued and Kai Havertz was the player to make the difference when he struck the winner in the 117th minute before Palmeiras’ Luan Garcia was sent off deep into stoppage time.

The Blues have now won every trophy available to them since Roman Abramovich bought the club, also becoming the third English side to win the Club World Cup after Manchester United and Liverpool.

It’s also a third trophy for Tuchel since he took over from Frank Lampard as Chelsea manager, and he admitted he is happy to be part of the club’s continued success.

He said: “I’m a part in it and I’m happy to have the chance.

“We said before in the dressing room what an opportunity this is, everybody is jealous of us to play a game like this.

“As boys, we all dream to have finals like this. We wanted to play with no regrets. There are still things to win, it never stops.”

He added: “Of course [I feel] relief.

“In the end if you score late, you need luck to do it. We were relentless, we did not stop trying, we took the effort and didn’t give in.

“We had the lead, then we lost it. But we never stopped attacking so I think it’s deserved but you need luck to score late.”

Chelsea next face Crystal Palace in the Premier League, while they will have another chance to win a trophy at the end of February when they face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.
