The next guest on tonight’s edition of Politics Hub With Sophy Ridge is the former Tory defence secretary, Grant Shapps, and we start by asking about reports that the Labour government is set to back a third runway at Heathrow.

He tells Sophy Ridge that the move is “absolutely right”, saying: “It’s crazy it’s taken all these years.

“I know COVID and other things intervened. But if we’re serious as a country, [if] we want to grow, actually grow the economy, but also kind of just even keep pace of the world, you’ve got to build infrastructure.

“I always thought it was a crazy plan all those years ago to fudge it and not build it.”

Asked if he was frustrated when in government by NIMBYs (not-in-my-back-yarders) on his own side fighting new construction projects, Mr Shapps rejects the premise, and instead suggests we have not been “serious as a country” about building.
