The midfielder netted early in the first half and Atleti held on to take a 1-0 lead to Germany next week.
Saul explaining what happened to allow him on the score sheet revealed:
“I was running with the ball. I saw I’d left two opponents and, as I got into the penalty area, I put the ball on my left foot to shoot.
“It’s the most important goal of my career and also my most beautiful.”
Saul felt however that Atleti could have had a second goal with a little more luck, when Fernando Torres hit the post, but wants focus on La Liga now, until the return.
“We didn’t have the fortune with Torres’ chance. There was part of the game in which we were pushed back and we suffered. Bayern are a difficult team and we have to thank all the fans for the victory, they support us and encourage us in every moment,” he continued.
“The second leg is a very important game, but we also have to think about the next League match.”
