The Saudi-led coalition said early Sunday it intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by Yemen’s Houthi group toward Khamis Mushait in southwestern Saudi Arabia, while also downing three drones.
Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki announced the interceptions on X. Shortly before the announcement, Saudi Civil Defense issued “potential danger” alerts in the capital Riyadh and the southwestern city of Abha, as well as Khamis Mushait, through its national early warning system, and later announced the danger had passed.
Maliki said the coalition also intercepted and destroyed two drones over Riyadh and one over the Eastern Province. On Saturday, the coalition announced it had downed four drones over Riyadh, the Eastern Province and southern regions in the past few hours, and destroyed two ballistic missile launchers in Yemen’s Saada governorate.
In the West Bank, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee strongly condemned an attack by Israeli settlers on Washington Post photographer Heidi Levine, calling it “a despicable act of terror carried out by masked cowards” and demanding “a full investigation, arrest, and prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.” Levine was injured Friday while covering the olive harvest in the village of Abu Falah, northeast of Ramallah. Speaking from her hospital bed, she said she was forced to the ground by masked settlers and beaten and kicked for at least 10 minutes despite identifying herself as an American journalist. Her camera, passport and phone were taken.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington was “very disturbed” by the attack and that President Donald Trump has been clear he does not want a new crisis in the West Bank. “We’ve asked the Israelis and continue to ask them to crack down on that stuff,” Rubio said.
Israeli police were also investigating an attack by Israeli settlers on European diplomats Saturday in the West Bank village of Taybeh. According to Israeli state broadcaster Kan, seven masked settlers armed with clubs attacked French, Belgian and Polish diplomats and Palestinian olive pickers, smashing a window of a vehicle belonging to the Belgian consulate. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar condemned “the serious acts of violence committed by Israeli rioters,” while the Israeli military said the diplomats’ tour had not been coordinated with the army. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office alleged a “smear” campaign against settlers.
