Russia’s foreign intelligence chief paid a visit to North Korea this week, the country’s spy service has said.
Sergei Naryshkin, the head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), visited Pyongyang on 25-27 March.
The aim of the visit was to deepen cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang and discuss broader regional security, SVR was quoted as saying by Russian state news agency TASS.
Korean’s state media agency, KCNA, which first reported the visit, said the two sides discussed further boosting cooperation to deal with the “ever-growing spying and plotting moves by the hostile forces”.
Mr Putin has strengthened ties with North Korea, with which Russia shares a border, since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
The United States and its allies have condemned what they say have been significant North Korean missile deliveries to Russia to help its war effort.
Both Russia and North Korea have repeatedly dismissed the criticism.
