Japanese PM Shinzo Abe presented an Akita dog to Russia’s Olympic icon and skating champion Alina Zagitova during a visit to Moscow on Saturday.
Zagitova, 16, who won gold at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Games, talked about her fondness for Akitas. You might need one after watching “Hachiko”
Zagitova chose the puppy out of numerous other dogs offered by Japan. She plans to name it Masaru, which is translated to winning and victory in Japanese.
“I have been looking forward to today,” Zagitova was quoted by Japan Times at the presentation ceremony. “I am excited to be given such a wonderful gift.”
“We hope Masaru will be a symbol of expanding ties between Japan and Russia,” Takashi Endo, the president of a preservation group said at the handover ceremony.
