With his awesome performance in Real Madrid’s 5-0 thrashing of Sevilla today, Cristiano Ronaldo proved once again that he is far from quitting the global football stage, even with five Ballon d’Ors in his portfolio.
The Portugal international footballer’s dynamism was laid bare as he terrorized Eduardo Berizzo’s side in what looked like an easy walk, and Zinedine Zidane says his faith in the player was duly repaid.

Barely two days ago, C. Ronaldo won FIFA’s highest individual award for the fifth time at a glamorous ceremony held in front of the Eiffel Tower. His most recent football award ties him with Lionel Messi, the famous Barcelona and Argentina player who has also won the trophy a record five times.
Ronaldo played a major role in Madrid’s first half demolition of the visitors. He scored a brace in the first half, together with Nacho Fernandez, Toni Kroos and Achraf Hakimi, who all found the net before half time.
Zidane said in a post-match conference that he has always believed in CR7’s abilities, having supported the former Manchester United winger’s recent goal drought which earlier served as a point of criticism in the media.
The French tactician expressed happiness that Ronaldo, 32, vindicated the trust by proving himself a goal-scoring machine against Sevilla.
In his words, ‘It’s possible that Ronaldo has found his rhythm. This could be his best week…there are many of such weeks …and I hope he continues this way.’
The Frenchman who also played for Real Madrid and France, winning the World Cup and Ballon d’Or in his fruitful football career, told newsmen at the press conference that he knew Ronaldo would spring up his usual surprises.
Referring to his comments shortly after the Paris football event, Zidane said: ‘I told you that…I didn’t say it for nothing because I know my player very well, and I know how ambitious he is. It was clear to me that he would find the scoresheet again.
‘Most of us feel unhappy when he doesn’t score, but whenever he doesn’t, it’s time to be careful with him. He never quits.’
