The yearly event which is often referred to as the “Shoe Oscars”, was held on Wednesday at IAC Headquarters in New York City.

It was the 30th anniversary for Footwear News (FN) otherwise known as “the industry bible of the shoe business,” having been in charge for 70 years.

Footwear News recognized budding enterpreneurs like Rihanna as well as some oldies whose impact has been felt in the industry for many years.

The Barbadian model-actress best known as a pop star, received her award from FN Editorial Director Michael Atmore.

“I didn’t expect people to love it the way I do, and the way they’ve supported it means so much to me,” said Rihanna in her acceptance speech.

“I’m proud to be a woman. And proud to be a young woman from Barbados, especially.

“All the Creeper fans and all the kids in the street who inspire me by doing things their own way,” Riri said in appreciation for the support from fans.

Michael Kors was also present to hand over the Launch of the Year award to Zendaya for her Daya by Zendaya shoe collection.

Paul Andrew was named Designer of the Year.

Chiara Ferragni also was named Style Influencer of the Year.

Media reports confirm that the Fashion Footwear Association of New York, Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America , Zappos Luxury and Two Ten Footwear Foundation jointly sponsored this year’s event.

Rihanna, 28, entered the music scene in 2003 by recording some demo tapes under instructions from her then producer Evan Rogers.

Luckily for the “Anti” singer, she landed a recording contract with Def Jam Records after a wonderful audition supervised by the company’s famous president, producer and rapper Jay Z.

Riri is the youngest and fastest solo artist to earn fourteen number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. She was named the Digital Songs Artist of the 2000s decade and the top Hot 100 artist of the 2010s decade by Billboard.

So far, Rihanna has won 8 Grammy Awards, 12 American Music Awards, 12 Billboard Music Awards, 2 BRIT Awards, among a host of others.

In November 2012, Rihanna released her third fragrance, “Nude“.
