Real Madrid, like every other focused individual and group, have released their 2018 New Year Resolutions, which include plans to replace out-of-favor striker Karim Benzema and more.
In their plan to improve on last year’s brilliant performances and close the 14-point gap between them and La Liga leaders, Barcelona, Zinedine Zidane‘s team expect to rise against the daunting challenges they face across all competitions in the new year.
Admittedly, Madrid’s improvement on their last year record of five major trophies could be a complicated task at the moment, but there’s hope, especially with potential reinforcements which will, most likely, add a new lease of life to Los Blancos.
Here’s a list of Madrid’s target in 2018:
To sign Kepa Arrizabalaga
To strengthen the Spanish base of the team, Madrid management is looking forward to having a new shot-stopper at the goal post. The signing of Athletic Club’s young goalkeeper will be a dream come true, and is in line with Real Madrid’s transfer policy of capturing talented players who are citizens of Spain.
Reports confirm Kepa Arrizabalaga is closer than ever to tasting action at the Santiago Bernabeu for a whooping 20-million-euro release clause.
Benzema will be replaced
Although France international footballer Karim Benzema has the backing of his countryman, Zidane, who serves as Madrid coach, the club president Florentino Perez admits he never enjoyed sourcing for new players in the winter-market but says his board has appetite for a better striker.
According to a report from Marca, it is a priority that Madrid sign a prolific goal-scorer in January.
To sign a Neymar-type Galactico
It has been two summers without a superstar-signing at the Santiago Bernabeu, but Madrid board thinks the time has come for one mega-transfer.
After a failed ambition to secure signatures from a star-labelled player like Kylian Mbappe, who currently plays alongside Neymar Jr. and Edison Cavani at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), there are speculations that a former Barcelona star could be the next target. And he’s none other than the famous Brazilian footballer.
While a potential move seems extremely difficult for Neymar, we believe anything can happen, especially in the world of football. His return to Spain can’t be ruled out as a shot in the dark.
To win another Champions League title
There’s more space for an addition to the 12 Champions League trophies that rest in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu museum. Having broken football records with their back-to-back or simply “Double-Double” titles, an achievement which is yet to be broken by any team, Real Madrid say they’re embarking on another chase.
Madrid’s target right now isn’t just the trophy, but how to eliminate PSG from the Round of 16. A successful campaign against the French champions would, without doubts, send a reverberating signal around Europe.
To have everyone fit and match-ready
Real Madrid’s numerous injuries during the season granted coach Zidane only three days of training with his full squad at the moment. The club captain, Sergio Ramos, including Bale and Benzema have suffered their fair share of football pains, but if the Frenchman could lay hands on an injury-free squad, his targets for the year 2018 may not be a disappointment.
