The suspect in the New Orleans ISIS-inspired terror attack planted two “functional” improvised explosive devices (IED) near the incident site, according to the FBI and two senior law enforcement officials, speaking to NBC.
They say the bombs were made of galvanised pipe with end caps and taped inside two coolers.
Both devices contained nails inside of them and had receivers for remote firing of the devices, according to the officials.
It is not immediately clear whether suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar tried to detonate the devices, if they malfunctioned, or what his plan was with him, they added.
